A few lakes can be found about halfway between the north-south border. After driving through some mountain twisties and getting to Lake Bratan from the volcanic crater, we arrived at our first lake.

Like any place of interest on nusa bali holiday the first things we saw were the souvenir stalls. The hawkers, however, were very controlled and we enjoyed a pleasant couple of hours watching the boats move on the water while our grandkids went fishing. Just about anything edible in rivers and lakes on Bali has already been caught and eaten, but a man put something that looked like a bit of mushy worm on their hooks and helped them cast out. They caught about 12 fish the size of large coins in an hour. After their time was up, they tossed all of them back into the lake. I doubt that the locals were too happy about this. They probably sold these fish to aquariums.

1993 was the first year we drove up the west coast to Medewi, where we discovered the surf beach. The west coast is pretty boring beyond that. Most people only travel that way to catch the ferry to Java, although on the far NW of Bali the snorkeling and diving is supposed to be pretty good.

Make a budget and follow it if you want to save money. Find out how much money you can afford to pay for everything, and don't miss out on any opportunities. Look for ways you can cut corners, such as when it comes to food spending. You can then spend the extra on the holiday that is truly important to yourself.

If you are lucky enough to land a job, you'll be able to make a living. You don't always get a story.
